Welcome to the weekly Think! Pray! Act! update, helping us integrate these things that we may live into the Gospel more fully. This week we continue our journey through the Psalms and the theological conversations inspired by them, begin our prayer practice of Lectio Divina (another practice of Ignatian spirituality), and live the Gospel through our daily activities and experiences. Check out the calendar if you’d like some ideas!

Word & World devotes an entire journal issue to the Psalms. Take a look! What do the Psalms mean to us? How do we think about what they mean to us? This article, while dated, gives us an overview of the types of things scholars have considered while studying the Psalms. How do their concerns align with ours?
“African believers […] searched the Bible to find the power that they thought the missionaries refused to show them. The members of the African Indigenous Churches found this power and these potent words especially in the book of Psalms. Some psalms are therefore classified as ‘therapeutic psalms.’ The reading of the Bible is combined with the African indigenous method of healing. Herbs, prayer, fasting, and the use of God’s name are employed in the healing process in addition to the use of psalms.”
